Mill Dene
Mill Dene is a romantic story of a young couple falling in love with each other and a beautiful Cotswold stone water mill.
Knowing nothing about gardening the Dares set about creating a personal and peaceful garden. The garden is built around an attractively planted mill-pond and stream and climbs upwards in steep terraces, each with its own character and colour scheme to a potager and fruit garden. A summerhouse, a herb garden with rills and little fountain are encountered at the top, and a rose walk and cricket lawn on the way. Other features of this 2.5 acre garden include a misty grotto, a bog garden and sculptures.
There are plenty of seats from which to enjoy the mill pond and its trout, kingfisher and ducks. It is an exercise in making the most of a difficult and steep sided site.
Scented plants are a priority and there are splendid views of the Cotswolds hills and the picturesque village of Blockley.
